If only the actual cars were stuck 20 years in the past as well...

If you can find one, a mid-2000s Acura TL Type-S.  Basically a 4 door Accord Coupe with a manual available.

It’s not about just being understood, it’s about fair and consistent enforcement of the rules.

It’s honestly amazing how even a little bit of water can obscure something like a car for so long. Ten feet of water is the height from my floors to my ceiling, plus one foot. That’s not very deep.

Hey guy. I don’t see how Elizabeth’s deep dive into the greasy side of car enthusiast is of zero value. I think it’s pretty darn valuable and interesting because I suspect there are a lot of enthusiasts who never raise their hood. I applaud her for taking the plunge as it seems to me there are two worlds - at least -

I’m not,  it's like expecting a car salesman to actually know something about the car they are selling.

It seems the emphasis (in selling copy) is on the writing and not on the subject matter. Good writers can be eloquent about any topic they put their pen to.

I see. (hehe) Well, feel better soon. It’ll be a pretty cool x-mas present to yourself to unlock “manual mode”. lol

drinking wine, eating cheese, and not getting your hands dirty? c'est moi

I’ll be the other guy, you know who doesn’t belong on this site? You.

Thanks for sharing your take! As the writer of the article, I’ll respectfully disagree — Jalopnik is a car site for a variety of enthusiasts, including people who enjoy cars as a concept, without actually getting hands-on. Our readership includes folks who have never worked on or even driven a car, if you can believe

No disrespect, however you’re free not to read the article. Complaining about free content always seems misplaced to me.

I’ll be honest, I felt a little disjointed when I read that she’d never done this kind of thing before, and there was a thought in the back of my head wondering about how a writer on a car blog managed that.

Regular reader here to say that this is content I find interesting. It’s also useful. It has been a long time since I learned a lot of these things, and it is very helpful to see these viewpoints when informing less experienced folks. My girlfriend didn’t even know how to check tire pressure and has been having some

I’m enjoying her experience learning about basic car maintenance, and thinking I should get my family out into the garage and give them a quick tutorial.

Hey “That guy”. Your comment is of zero value and does not belong on a site that is dedicated to people that enjoy cars.

Shoo, away with you!

says the person who has never driven a stick.

Why do you need to drink coffee, eat food, or use your phone while commuting?  All of which I can do just fine in my manual, by the way, but I choose not to.

Specifying GM isn’t fair. The whole era was bad for American interiors.
