I'm a Marylander and had a lot of friends that went to or are still enrolled at Towson. From what they tell me, most of the campus finds this guy some mix of abhorrent, uncomfortable, and terrifying. As one (black) friend put it, "I think that guy called me 'boy.'"

Move closer. It may not be feasible for everyone but it worked for me. The cost of living is higher where I live now but it is more than offset by the $400+ I save month in commuting expenses. More importantly the extra time I now have is priceless. I got my commute down from 1hr to 7 minutes.
