Ernest Hemingway—the burly, hard-drinking he-man who loved hunting, fishing, and bullfights

The grisly details of how abortion works are meant to scandalize us, even though every surgical operation sounds like a Saw challenge when described step by step.

Sister site The Onion did something similar.

As are lottery winners.

You choose to believe what they’re saying based on external circumstances such as the fact that it’s way more of a risk to say something than not say something. This isn’t theoretical physics.

So we should never make jokes about any group until prejudice against them has been eliminated entirely?

The Chinese Exclusion Act was repealed in 1943.

uh, no.

except it’s you punching down on people we’ve named Exclusion Acts after.

former child actor, current writer, and all-around online gem Mara Wilson said (in a brilliant essay about why former child stars would be drawn to cults) that she was scouted for this thing back when it had the stilted but better working title of 1973. Yeah, she turned it down. But her exploring why she would be

If this is really the case, only a matter of time before it drops. Unless he’s got a PR machine ready and rarin’ to go like a certain Mr. Allen. (You know damn well which one I’m referring to so spare me the joke answers)

Apparently he thought he had a shot with her and when that delusion was cut down, he decided she wasn’t a decent human being and proceeded to spend a lot of his time and energy on trashing her.

I had no idea how talented Lyonne was til I saw this show. I knew she was a solid character actor but she directed the Season 1 finale too, not an easy feat.

Also the Crown is infamously cheap about specific things, and I think lighting is one of them. Ditto climate control in their buildings.

I was just thinking about that episode after watching the docu series - “huh, this must be what that one Law and Order CI ep was based on. I wonder if people know Colbert was initially, basically an actor before he was a political commentator”

Gibson was ALWAYS as Jew-hating, homophobic, misogynist, and racist as he is now. Yet in the 80s and 90s everyone was fawning over him. “The Critic” had a character loosely based on him. Are people just not as good at overlooking things? I guess when you have Bill Cosby and Woody Allen to consider, yes...
