The AI heard “Hollywood strike” and misinterpreted.

You do have a point, but I saw the ending in a different light: being this Star Trek, the odds of the gas cloud NOT being alive are pretty slim, so taking your officer on their word and nuking the allegory for the “oil rig killing dolphins” is the most genre savvy thing they could’ve done

CEERITOS STRONG!

I AM ABOLUSTELY GIDDY about next week’s episode.

Still absolutely blows my entire mind that these people are so mentally deranged and have so little to occupy their lives that they continue to be obsessed with the fact that Bud Light gave a trans woman a small amount of money to promote a product for like 10 seconds 3 months ago.

Florida Republicans: “well well well, if it isn’t the consequences of my actions.”

Yup, it’s the turning their backs to the artist for me. Wtf. They were super close to the stage and doing this. I love live music and I snap pics when I go - these ladies were all the way out of line. I’d be mortified if the performer noticed me or called me out for being disruptive, but instead these idiots doubled

large portions of America reflexively side with corporate interests

Dont forget Futurama and Fry making the comment about how it sucks to be one of the little people, but can’t wait to be one of the big people to shit on the little people one day.

Unfortunately the largest quantities of stocks are held by a small number of individuals or firms. Their goal is to extract as much value and wealth in as short a period of time as possible. That leads to the dominance of short term thinking, at the expense of long term stability.

The strike is just a fight between who will take a pay cut.

Fury looking like SLJ in MCU came from the Ultimate Marvel universe comics, where Nick Fury was drawn (with persmission, apparently) as SLJ. These books came out sometime in the mid-aughts, as I recall. They (in)famously also depicted Hank Pym as a wifebeating alcoholic with an inferiority complex, made Tony Stark

i maintain that the BEST scene in the series has come from episode 3 where talos threatens/hurts Gravik and all of a sudden he’s SURROUNDED BY GRAVIKS!!! Like that is VERY GOOD that’s what I want!! and they just keep gettin ghampered by “grounding” this story and i’m like this is Not Working!!! it’s NOT WORKING!!!!

Ok, well, then humanity was a mistake

Oh good, let’s add ‘caused Kessler syndrome’ to Elon’s resume.

Good take but doesn’t the son already know what Negan did?

I think the idea that Utopia is always a WIP is not contrary to Roddenberry’s vision. The Federation is made up of people, and people will always be flawed - we all need someone to tell us when we’re wrong.

It can always get better - and I find that idea both true and comforting. Progress never ends until the heat

I would also make the case that TOS often argued humanity couldn’t exist in any kind of paradise without losing what makes us fundamentally human. So ‘utopia’ can both be subjective, and perhaps somewhat unrealistic.

I think it comes down to relevance. Satine was a peacemaker in a society of warriors. Her political dream was essentially a failed experiment followed by a galactic coup followed by a genocide from which the pacifists did not survive, only the warriors did. And not many of them.

But in her wake, as Star Wars has pushed deeper into Mandalorian storytelling, it’s like Satine has vanished from memory. Why?
