Modern striker fired handguns (Glock’s, M&P’s, XD’s, VP9's, P320's, etc.) are designed to be carried with a round chambered. This is considered normal nowdays, I’ve not met a firearms instructor in the last 5 years who advises carrying without a round in the chamber.

What breeds do you see have very few issues that are also “working” dogs similar to German Shepards? I’m thinking about a dog and I’ve been leaning towards an Airedale Terrier (family had one as a child) or one of the other breeds that commonly compete in that class.

Yeah, hoses are inspected literally every time they are put away, and well inspected and tested any time they saw anything that could potentially damage them, such as a structure fire. Pretty easy to get a hose DQ’d.
