I saw The Fall play The Powerstation in Auckland last night. The one review I saw of it was very unkind, but I fucking loved it. The band sounded incredible (it was the loudest thing I've ever heard), Mark E Smith obviously wasn't on top of his game, but I thought he was great anyway. I basically just stood completely

I just assume that Dinosaur Lover is the name of his Cretaceous-era, time-travel, inter-species erotic fiction series.

One of the cast members of The Real World followed me on Twitter last week. This is his bio, "Newest castmember for MTV Real World.
Erotic Author. Gay. Dinosaur Lover." I have no idea why he was interested in reading any of my shitty jokes.

Something I Can't Have - The Jesus and Mary Chain

I just became a Jesus and Mary Chain fan about three weeks ago, so this is great fucking timing.

The Beatles. I know that they're good. I know that they are the most important band in the history of rock music. I just don't give a shit. I like all sorts of bands that were doing stuff around the same time, but I just don't care, even slightly about The Beatles.

Any of the ones where John sings The Sign are good ones, probably the best of those is from the Bottom of the Hill in 2008. It has all of the best Heretic Pride stuff, plus things like See America Right, Houseguest, I've Got the Sex etc.

I don't have that one (although I do have 23 other ones). Where did you get it from?

Not really essential, but there are a shitload of good Mountain Goats bootlegs on
archive.org. My personal favourite one is from the Bottom of the Hill in 2006 where JD's throat is really fucked up and he just does quiet songs all night. About halfway through the set, someone from the audience asks John to play No

Black Eyes - Black Eyes - A Pack of Wolves

As weird as this may sound, Ben Folds was my gateway into alternative music. Without him bringing me out of the world of Christian Rock, I would never have been ready to listen to any punk or independent music. So thanks Ben Folds, for making great music and opening my eyes to all of the great stuff out there.

I've been listening to Murder Ballads pretty much on repeat for the last few months. That album has some fantastic duets.

You Were Cool and I've Got the Sex are two of my favourite songs. They definitely belong on this list.

If You're Into It.

If I knew how to do that "The A.V Club" thing, I would do it now.

What's wrong with Steve Albini?

Rik kicking the screen is one of my favourite punchlines ever.
