I'll have to think about this question, but my gut says ask for a modern interpretation of an F40. No tech wizardry, just an engine that sounds primal, a sequential transmission, and gorgeous bodywork. That would probably make me happy.

Because unlike in all of those places, freight rail is the bulk of our rail industry. Our freight rail mops the floor with freight rail from any other country except Canada (which is part of our same network) and Russia.
Amtrak is in the middle of getting a bunch of new locomotives from Siemens. The locomotives have never really been the problem, even the current Genesis locomotives that are ubiquitous can go over 100 mph. They just aren’t able to mostly because of the tracks which are either not well maintained, not rated for those…
Just get a sleeper car. The long distance Amtrak trips are fantastic in those. Coach is always awful on long distance trips.
I agree that we badly need a real high-speed rail network, but in general Amtrak gets priority over freight trains, which have to wait for Amtraks a lot longer and more frequently than the other way around. The problem is that there’s so much traffic that inevitably even the highest priority trains will have to wait…
Torch, I’m so glad you wrote this article. I’ve ridden Amtrak a few times and I feel like I can argue both for and against Amtrak, depending on how you do it.
It’s been dead for a LONG time.
To be fair, some Millenials were still actually kids in 2009, so if you take their plan for a “Millenial-inspired” car literally, it’s appropriate.
Don’t forget MySpace and GeoCities!
“yolo swag”? That hasn’t been in for like a decade...or, you know, back when the younger Millenials were still actually kids.
Yup. The worst part about LA traffic is 100% not the freeways, it's the surface streets where you can be stuck on a single block gridlocked between two lights for half an hour.
It’s actually more frequently possible than you think. 10-11am, 1-2pm, and late at night I regularly drive and the traffic is light enough that at least one lane is completely empty.
Clearly the solution is for Red Bull to start making road cars.
I like how the initial evidence presented that it’s somehow ok to present the Caliber as anything but awful is that the Pinto and Yugo are now good.
It sounds like the locomotive was damaged when it hit the tree, which is why they were able to get moving once a different locomotive got to them.
He was probably able to file exemptions under the “not being a useful engine” clause.
COTD lol
Lister is one of those companies that a lot fewer people (well, at least young people) would know about if it wasn't for Gran Turismo. I used to love racing the Storm in GT3.
I got angry just reading that.
That’s true, I was just thinking about the first gen. Second gen is classy no matter the badge.
