Unless his parents are filthy rich, at 22 he is probably more worried about getting a job and money. He’s not getting superhero salary offers here. Also, even though he is from New York, it is very possible he had no idea what some 80 year old guy did before he was born. It seems to me that he is making a nice gesture

He’s 22 and quite newly famous I’d cut him some slack. The entire cast of Wonder Wheel are all quite established and making excuses which is really unforgivable. He might be a little late, but he did the right thing with this.

That and he was a teenager during the most recent wave of “Woody Allen is Creepy- remember why?” I was a kid when the whole thing happened, and all I knew was that he married a sort-of-stepdaughter, which seemed icky, but not *that* bad (didn’t know her age, either), and that one explanation explained the media uproar

THERE is nothing really to call bullshit on. He is donating his entire profit from that movie. He said he has learned from this.

I know this wasn’t the whole point of your post, but I would also like a lot more focus placed on the producers, funders and big corporations that are making Woody Allen films happen than on the actors that are hired. The actors themselves have a lot more to lose by speaking out than we do by speaking anonymously on

Totally. This kid has neither the bank account, nor the established career (though he probably will) as any of the above. And yet.

Selena Gomez isn’t really a musician. She’s a Disney star packaged as a pop star to move merchandise. Not that she isn’t a real human being, but “musician” is a stretch.
There are so many musicians with so much to say, and you’re right - that is their (our) role...remind us of folly, inspire us, and move us

I think Allen is done, honestly. I doubt he ever faces meaningful consequences for his actions, but the rolling snowball that is #TimesUp has picked up enough speed that being in a film of his has flipped from being a career boost to being a toxic stain on the resume. I mean, people are already being shamed into

And it will add to the pressure for decent actors not to take parts in any future Allen films, at least not without even super uncomfortable questions being asked. It’s a good step.

the kid is only 22 and he has more integrity than Colin Firth, Joaquin Phoenix, Javier Bardem or any of the other men in his recent films. None of those actors needed the work or money and chose to make a Woody film anyway.

Selena Gomez needs to pick a lane. She’s getting too old for the “gee gosh, I’m not sure I know what’s going on there” routine.

Not recognizing other people as beings with worth is also how systems of power like white supremacy, misogyny, and colonization work and we don’t generally call entire ideologies a mental illness.

Listening to Dreaming my Dreams and trying not to cry and ruin my mascara on the bus into work.

I woke up with my alarm (which is on my phone), and saw this in my notifications within seconds. So my reaction was along similar lines. Hell of a way to start a Monday morning.

Soundtrack indeed — I don’t know what it is, but their songs make it so easy to for me to fantasize I’m living in a montage from a late 90's movie. I find it comforting, even if I’m feeling melancholy.

Just because I enjoyed their forgotten creepy video with seemingly high production values. She was so so talented. I said “fuck” quite loudly reading the headline.

I am probably not the only one who leaned hard on this song to get me through last year:

Everybody has two bands that are the best of all time: one for technical reasons, for its public awesomeness; another for personal, sentimental reasons. To me, the first was Queen. But the second, the one that touched me personally the most, whose songs are sort of a soundtrack to my life, it is The Cranberries.

This is really heatbreaking news.

I’m actually crying. The Cranberries have been my favorite band since I was 8 and I finally saw them live in 2009. God damn it. She was the best singer.
