I had that problem with it too. I didn't know why I should care about any of these people. I kept at it largely because Alan Sepinwall said one should, and I'm really glad I did. As it goes along, it turns into one of the most subtly feminist shows on TV. But it is still about the problems of middle-to-upper-class

I've always thought this had more to do with cock sucking being a female thing. Which is, of course, connected to homophobia and in particular effeminophobia, but in Deadwood's context I really think it's mostly about "Women suck cock, therefore, if you suck cock, you are as weak as a woman," not "You are a sodomite."

Sports Night, The West Wing, A Few Good Men, Moneyball, The American President, The Social Network — none of these are ringing a bell? I'm no Sorkin apologist, but you're way off if you think he sounds like every other show, and I think you overstate the case about Deadwood too.

It's James Bond as written by PG Wodehouse.

I'd say that criticism could be levelled at a few of the scenes in Wolf of Wall Street too, speaking of Scorsese. I haven't seen Hustle, so I can't compare, but during WoWS I found myself thinking "Well yeah, this is entertaining enough, but does it need to be here? It's not advancing the story or my understanding of

Polanski won Best Director not that long ago, and Woody was given a standing O for deigning to appear at the Oscars post-9/11. This controversy isn't going to mean a thing come Sunday.

Is Tara too young to remember Debi Thomas? She skated her short program in '88 in pants.

I like the song "Hard Out Here." I just try to forget the video exists.

Boxing is judged, and I'm pretty sure everyone thinks that's a sport.

I fully admit to being biased about V/M, but to me they actually look like they're dancing on ice, which is the point. D/W skate, do an element, skate, do an element (or that's what it's looked like the few times I've seen them - I could be wrong). That said, the V/M routine this year was not the most interesting one

During the team event one of the Canadian commentators mentioned that "you'll never go wrong doing Tchaikovsky in Russia."

As soon as I saw the subway station I thought "Oh Zoe, you're so dead." The fact that Underwood was dressed as Keyser Soze was a big clue too.

Sorry, I didn't scroll down far enough to see that someone had already answered this.

Gotcha. I don't watch the NBC coverage, and it wasn't clear from your post above that they were making that distinction.

It didn't use to be like that though. You'd see all the figure skaters still in their long-program costumes getting their medals right there on the ice. My memory stretches back far enough for the battle of the Carmens, and Katerina, Debi, and Elizabeth were all still in their dresses getting their medals.

Do you mean Nathalie Pechalat? The one who could be Marion Cotillard's cousin?

Music with lyrics is already allowed in ice dance. Virtue and Moir, the couple depicted above, skated to an Ella and Louis medley in the short.

It's less about how divisive she is and more about the fact that she and Charles are both divorce(e)s, no? I thought when they married the Queen put in place some decree that Camilla would never be called Queen consort.

Cleese is a good one. Any of the surviving Pythons, really.

I have this debate with a friend. She thinks Ringo's going to be the last one to go. I think Paul's going to outlive all of them so he can have the last word. I'm convinced he's got a tell-all locked in a vault already.
