Sorry Win7.
Just the other day I accidentally discovered a trick for renaming multiple files. [F2] to rename the first file (don't hit [Enter]), then [Tab] to move to the next file in file-rename-mode. If you're renaming 30 files, write a script but if you have 5 to rename this saves a lot of [F2], [Enter], [arrow], [F2],…
I had the same problem. Rather disappointing. However, I called Google and they replaced it no problem.
Mat Honan for failing to backup his computer. My retired parents backup their computer. My retired parents! But technology "expert" Mat Honan? Nope.
Or for the same money, get a HTC EVO V 4G (not yelling, that's its name) off contract from Virgin. 1.2 GHz dual core, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, 4" screen, Android 4.0. In other words about 4x processor, 4x memory, expandable storage, 12% more screen and ICS.
I'd also add Mat Honan's complete inability to backup his data. My parents backup their data! My parents! Mat Honan, technology "expert"? Nope.

Great list. Personally I'd add g/vim and Cygwin.
Han shot first!
Nice list Alan. I'd swap out gReader over NewsRob but I'm not married to it so feel free to disagree. :-)
I'll second AutomateIt.
