@CaptainJack: I do read library books on my Kindle with a little questionably legal jiggery pokery. I delete the books after I'm done so I don't really feel bad since I'm not violating the spirit of the rule.

@CaptainJack: Stripping the DRM is trivial indeed. There's a plugin for Calibre (not from Kovid Goyal but an unrelated developer) that will strip the DRM automatically when you add the book to your library.

@CaptainJack: And they also end up buying most if not all their books from Amazon where before they likely drew from a variety of sources.

@CaptainJack: And how do you choose which edition to base the page numbers on? Many books have multiple printings and even multiple publishers. Pages are becoming increasingly irrelevant as time goes on.

@Channan: And it sounds like he's not charging extra for materials. Of course, it says that he charges up to $11k and spends up to $250. I bet he does a lot of smaller jobs.

@Benguin: He's actually spending an hour cleaning and 249 hours cruising around in those sweet cars.

@gemcosta: I guess I've just gotten used to it because I don't really notice it anymore.

@coonsrc: Another thing that's really awesome is the free samples. Keeps me from buying books I don't like enough to finish. That's saved me a lot of money over the years. Since you can get the rest of the book really quickly (and pretty much anywhere if you have the 3G) it keeps me from buying stuff ahead of time

@jdale: I think the space is so you have somewhere to put your thumb while you're holding it.

@glaeven: You've always been able to sideload on the Kindle. It has to be in a format the Kindle supports for you to be able to use the file, of course. Here are to fomats supported: Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, Audible (Audible Enhanced (AA, AAX)), MP3, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP

@ezgoo: Well, the last time they changed models they also went out of stock right before the announcement and the people on the waiting list got the new device. If your concerned, just email Amazon's customer service. Of course, if you want to save $50 and don't care about the 3G, you could always cancel and pre-order

@Go Vols!: I would hope that this is encrypted like other online credit card transactions typically are.

@Arken: Most people who are old enough to drink have credit cards, though.

@spinnaker0: They do list the Android market in the links at the end of the article but it's pretty easy to get the impression it's iPhone only from the article.

@Time Pilot AKA: Or you can learn to convert your books. It's not hard.

@Kraken: That's what I was wondering.

@adlyb1: Most cable systems offer that as basic service. I get that through AT&T Uverse which is VDSL. It's their basic tier, not premium. You can get that on ADSL and up to 2Mbps on ADSL2/2+ if you're close to the CO. It's usually not the cheapest tier but it's not super expensive, either.

@Maave: How are you measuring the speed for real use?

@FrankenPC: Yep. And it doesn't add to the discussion. Another one I would file in that category is someone posting along the lines of "I have one of those" with nothing further. Or just that they liked it without saying why. Yes, lots of people have it, like it, hate it. We know that. When you have a hundred

@PoG: It sounds like lots of us here don't have a problem with it as long as the picture itself is useful, funny or adds to the discussion in some way.
