A similar thing happened over on Imgur a few weeks ago, when they announced that they would be more vigilantly enforcing their NSFW policy. People seem to have trouble with the idea that a privately owned site can enforce the policies they want.

Thank you! That is so sweet. Senior year was the year I really came into my own. My emotionally abusive boyfriend had broken up with me over the summer, and while he popped in every now and again to fuck with my head, I was really able to finally figure out who I was without him hanging over me.

Aww, thanks. I’m always down for a good hanging out.

I actually really liked my senior photo, but the story is amusing. So I knew we had to wear the stupid “dress” and I really wanted to wear a bow tie with it. So I found a clip-on tie and put it on an old chain that was just short enough that it would hit right above the dress. I was really excited.

I sincerely thank you for the spit take.

Oof. It’s tough. I’m doing it in NY and there is just so much that the state requires. Totally worth it though.

I picked it up because my friend was an assistant editor on it. It was just fantastic.

Nova Ren Suma talks about that in an interview for her most recent YA book The Walls Around Us (which is great feminist YA, and also some of the best magical realism I’ve read in a long time). It is crazy and frustrating that we still have to deal with the bullshit sexism of making the female character likable to make

My father had something that was pretty much the opposite happen. In 2002, his cellphone was stolen out of a rental car and my mother called to freeze his line. A few weeks later, we got a letter in the mail from Verizon saying that they were sorry for our loss, here was how we could close the account for the

I’m always really impressed by women who can do their make-up in moving vehicles (cars, buses, on the subway) because I would most definitely stab myself in the eye.

Putting on make-up before I leave the house. I almost always walk around the outside world without make-up. I just really like those 10-15 minutes of sleep in the AM.

Seconded.

If you came to my school you wouldn’t be anywhere near the oldest person there, so certainly don’t let anything like age stop you.

Ugh, that really sucks. I’m sorry that you have to deal with that, but I’m really glad that your student has you on their side.

I’m really glad you had that! Creating a welcoming, safe space like your librarian did is one of the main reasons I chose to go into school librarianship in the first place.

That’s so frustrating! Can administration help at all?

This is why anti-bullying legislation matters. This is why anti-bullying professional development for teachers should be required. I had a friend who was complaining about taking the Dignity for All Students workshop (mandatory in NY State for teacher’s certification) because it’s an all day affair, but goddammit,

Thanks for sharing this. I’m currently getting my masters in school librarianship (currently leaning towards high school, though my certification will be K-12) and I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. Teachers have a responsibility to make sure that their classrooms are safe, accepting spaces and it really

Oh absolutely. You could almost see how disappointed he was when he found out I had a degree.
