It depends on the specific community. As with all practitioners of religions, levels of observance vary, and some groups are more restrictive than others. It’s quite common for the Amish to avoid electrical appliances in the home, but they’re fine in a barn or shop where they’re used for business.

It’s just an expression, like AIDSburger or Auschwitz Buffet. It isn’t like it insensitively makes light of something incredibly tragic while also minimizing the struggle of marginalized people in order to sell product. Stop being so uptight and PC.

I live an a county with significant Amish population. It does happen during rumspringa, and it is quite dangerous. The horses often know their way home so if their minders are intoxicated the horses will often proceed back to the farm. The problem is they do not understand stop signs.

Did police ridealongs as part of a class while in college in PA. We gave out DUIs for being intoxicated while on a bike, on a horse, and on a tractor.  

It’s illegal to have an open container in a vehicle in Ohio. Unless you’re in a livery vehicle, aka a limo or party bus. Party buggies unfortunately do not count.

This is one of those stories that sounds crazy unless you grew up near a bunch of Amish people, then it’s just mildly surprising that they got caught.

I believe it is the State of Virginia that has issued DUIs to folks on horseback more than once. Where I live, BUIs are not infrequent (biking under the influence.)
