I was middle class but went to a school with a lot of kids who were much richer. People of all economic statuses drank, it was just the rich kids whose parents traveled enough/were negligent enough for them to host the parties where everyone binge drank.

In most public schools, kids have a lunch account and they get debited each time they get lunch. Some kids get free or reduced lunch based on need.

I volunteered at an elementary school and was shocked that the food was even less nutritious than we got fed in the 90s. Literally every time I went to volunteer lunch was a burger and jello.
