Exactly. The commentary is very reactionary, and based in idealism. I have seen very little that I would qualify as coming from a place of lived experience, or even well researched opinion.

I am also wondering what many commenters think a cognitive disability is, if they think these classes or education or training is all that is needed. A cognitive disability doesn’t just mean a person will have trouble with math or reading. There are people you could educate daily for years and it will not take. Or

That’s what I meant. My mistake. I definitely meant unable to. The low IQ probably makes it so they are unable, because they don’t realize that they need to.

This sounds like one of those “my child was expelled for doing a backflip” stories where there is only one side of the story told because the school isn’t allowed to talk about the 50 other infractions the child had on their record.

“It wasn’t that the mom was unwilling to parent or was intentionally abusive but she was unable to demonstrate the basics of parenting a newborn.”

This!! I’m seeing quite a bit of suggestions (downthread) that these parents may have been “unwilling” to learn how to care for their children properly. According to the

My husband was taken away from his birth mother when he was 18 months old. She doesn’t have a mental disability, in fact she’s quite intelligent but she was unfit to parent him. Her heart is the right place but she, through various mental health issues, just doesn’t get appropriate behavior and boundaries. So my

All the stars for using the word soupçon in a sentence. And a Nobel Prize for using it correctly!

This person isn’t being rude to you. They’re pointing out how thoughtless and stupid your take was.

Exactly. The funds are just not there for handling this properly. That doesn’t make taking the kids into foster care and adopting them out (the likely outcome for any children under 2) the morally pure choice, but it’s the most practical choice in the system we currently have. That sucks, and it needs to be fixed.

My

That could well be true as well.

Or maybe it was an EU version of “Impractical Jokers”. I can hear Merkel cackling into the earpiece, “Keep holding his hand! Don’t let it go - even if he tries! Now look into his eyes like you like him!”

He also thinks Akie Abe doesn’t speak English.

It’s at least a bit easier to swallow with the Russian dressing.

“ I know the bad people. Believe me, do I know bad people.”

I think any references to this story should include:

Any respect and credit I gave him for his ordeal in the Hanoi Hilton, went right out the window when Trump pissed all over him for ending up as a POW and McCain basically sat there and took it.

He went from the edge of death to a life of great privilege, and at the ol’ fork in the road where one decides to be either a benevolent soul to inspire greatness and compassion in others, or to be a goose-stepping shitbag, he chose the latter.

He will “realize” it publicly, and then vote for whatever the party line wants. Then release a statement about how “troubled” he is about it.

...at least now he may realise why people need healthcare that’s affordable and non-judgemental.

John McCain is one of those Senators that I feel most conflicted about. The guy went through shit and torture and for years was a moderate in the GOP but recently his devotion to Party Loyalty (seemingly thinking he’ll get something in return) has seen him hypercritically vote on bills for years now (similar to Ken
