I played the Alpha and I was grateful they didn't give me everything about the damn world now. I have done lots of Betas and such nothing kills playing a game on release day more than playing it a month earlier minus some tweeks. I got the general feel of the world I got to see how the game played which is enough.
My favorite part was when scientist explain space to congress with a sock puppet and the members of congress sat there and looked glassy eyed as they had their snack of goldfish.
