10 digits, 5 keys. It’s so the owner can choose any numeric code they want. It’s still technically using only 5 digits, but it makes it so someone can use a number that they’ll remember more easily. Say they wanted to use their ZIP code of 44118, they couldn’t if they only had 1-5 to choose from.
