"Okay. First test. Curl all fingers but the thumb. Good. Hold it. Curl the thumb into fist position. Excellent. Rotate the wrist 45 degrees clockwise. Okay, the bearings there need calibration. Rotate it back. Now extend the index finger completely. No, the index finger. That's not funny George."

What always bugs me about that scene is the way that he calls Vader 'Darth' as if it's the guy's name. if you were fighting someone who used to be a close friend you'd use the name you always called them by, if only to unbalance them.

I always assumed Obi-Wan's main motivation was to keep him the hell away from Luke. At the end of the film, when Vader gets on Luke's tail in the Death Star trench he immediately sniffs out that there's something unusual about him.

As a Sword fighter that fight scene is one of the most painful things to watch. Every single time they spin around I yell "STAB.HIM.IN.THE.BACK"

I remember reading an interview with Alec Guiness where he claimed that he didn't want to do Star Wars anymore after A New Hope, so he asked George Lucas to "kill" him off. If that's true, George might have written that in. Then again, there was Obi Wan's line: "If you strike me down, I'll become more powerful than

We've seen before the Obi-Wan is a master manipulator, twisting the truth by telling Luke that Darth Vader killed his father. Maybe Obi-Wan wanted to manipulate Luke into having the resolve to kill Vader at their next meeting, so that Luke wouldn't find out the truth of his parentage and hesitate.

While it's possible the choreography failed to sell the story-point - in hindsight it seems like he should have had little hope of escaping or defeating Vader, in which case most other motivations are moot. Why he would actively seek him out, were that the case, is another leap into guesswork: did he want a final

One story I've heard is that Obi-Wan wasn't supposed to die in ANH and remain Luke's sole mentor for the rest of the trilogy. The problem Lucas noticed is that Obi-Wan would have had NOTHING to do once everyone made it to Yavin 4. So he killed him off. Now I've heard variations on this story/myth for years but I
