I believe that was certain years of the XC90, if I recall correctly.

I did that same cross-shopping between a 2016 Outback 3.6R Limited and a used 2013 XC70 T6 Platinum, and came to the opposite conclusion. Between the excellent CPO warranty on the Volvo, and the higher cost of the Subaru to get similar levels of equipment ($31k vs $36k), I felt it was a no-brainer.

Don’t forget the lack of rear-seat leg-room that all of the _60 models in Volvo’s lineup suffer from. Convinced me to get a XC70 instead. And yeah, that T6 is a fantastic engine. Shame they discontinued it.

Oh god, the stuff is terrible to machine though.

A response based on ignorance or unfamiliarity is rarely logical.

Not trying to insult you, but you come across as sheltered. The world does not revolve around NYC and its unique stance on guns. Never feeling safe because the possibility exists that someone around you might be armed is not a logical response. The rest of the country moves on with their life, so should you.

The best value proposition with XC70's (and arguably Volvos in general) was getting one used. Depreciation hit those cars like a ton of bricks, so picking up a top-trim lightly-used example for less than a new Outback 3.6R wasn’t that hard. I was shopping around for a 2016 3.6R back in January, but ended up

New Volvo’s are a hard sell, used CPO is where the value lies.

Don’t turbocharged engines generally run at lower compression ratios, further reducing the theoretical efficiency when not in boost?

Their lives aren’t being ruined by someone else, they ruined their own lives. Actively, they were not passive bystanders to this. This was not teenagers doing stupid shit on a whim, they drove 3 hours to essentially accomplish grand theft auto.

Are we not doing hat tip anymore? I sent this into the Jalopnik tip email address 2 days ago.....

I did this with my bone-stock 2013 STI. 3 years, and 45k miles, got ~85% of what I paid for it when selling. Didn’t hurt that it was a SWP hatch, which is/was apparently a reasonably in-demand combo.

I’m failing to understand the point you are trying to make. Are you implying that crashes of this nature never occur?

Damnit Kinja, messing up my link.

They backpedaled to avoid drama. I would hardly call that ‘debunked’. They certainly didn’t confirm your theory of ‘pedestrians first’.

I think there’s a significant difference between visual aids (like a 3rd brake light) and driver aids (like lane-keeping assist). The fact that you are lumping them into the same category makes me question your judgement.

That’s your opinion. My opinion is that your opinion is naive.

My point is that rejecting it simply because YOU don’t need it is selfish and luddite, as well as counter-productive. Many people are shit drivers, especially in my state, but getting them off the road isn’t a realistic option. Autonomous cars can’t come soon enough for these people.

By that logic, why even bother with brake lights at all? You should be paying attention to the car in front of you and be able to tell when they’re braking. Also no airbags or seatbelts, because you shouldn’t be getting into accidents in the first place.
