Prequels don’t HAVE to do that. See the LOTR series being worked on at Amazon that basically just uses the world as a sandbox or the KOTR games in the Star Wars universe.

I don’t know if the show has mentionned it, but in the books there’s a lot of forshadowing that the crypts might indeed have more than one entrance. It’s presumably how one of the Wildling Kings beyond the Wall managed to kidnap the daughter of the Lord of Winterfell once. Pretty sure there’s going to be a secret…

It isn’t a similar situation, in that I hadn’t watched Emilia Clarke age from 11 to 22; that was the kicker for me. It didn’t ruin the episode and I wasn’t overly bothered even during the scene, but it struck both of us in a way that we laughed at our own discomfort.

I’m still a little mad that they gave the Hound’s backstory explanation to Littlefinger way back in season 1. Look up Rory McCann’s audition video – he gives a downright haunting monologue, meant to be delivered to Sansa. I can’t for the life of me understand why they didn’t use it.

I found it interesting that you presume that Martin *will* introduce the Night King. Martin did of course tell the legend of the Night King, but that particular character/story did not, at least in the books to date, seem to have much of anything in common with the show version. You forget everybody in the crypts. Could they have telegraphed that coming disaster any clearer?

The ending with Jon and Danny felt incredibly contrived. It struck me as similar to “24,” where they would need something big to happen at the end of an episode whether or not it made sense to the narrative.
