I had a similar experience. I credit my Catholic high school biology teacher with my understanding of fundamental scientific principles. We spent at least a month on evolution. Though I acknowledge this anecdotal example may be a-typical.
As a person who spends a lot of time in the North American woods, my number one animal concern isn't predators, it's a momma moose with a calf. I don't see this doing much good under those circumstances.
