I like this a lot better than “they just kind of forgot.

How old did you think Christian Bale was?

The violence in the book gets tedious, I think. The movie is definitely superior.

I mean, these were still pre-Special Edition versions. I know Lucas tinkered with the movies a bit before the special editions, but they hadn’t been butchered yet. I do think that Jedi was done the dirtiest by the Special Editions. The musical number in Jabba’s palace is at least as bad as the cringiest Jar Jar Binks

Works for John Wick!

Yeah, I remember disliking Empire as a kid because it was so dark. The other two ended in triumph, and I think that just sits better with a lot of eight year olds than ambiguity.

Return of the Jedi was my favorite of the Star Wars movies when I was a kid, but I can’t exactly remember why. It might have been as simple as thinking Luke’s green lightsaber was cooler than his blue one? I was born later in the 80s, after the initial craze, so my first experience with Star Wars was the THX

There really aren’t that many comedies that are “here are a bunch of loosely related skits” like Caddyshack or Animal House anymore.

That’s correct. That’s always correct.

Let’s hear him cover the “Baby of the Year” song next.

Obviously, Michael Scott leaving was the point of no return, but it was trending down even before that. Too much Ed Helms, too many wacky musical numbers (every episode had to have a goddamn singalong or something, it sucked), the characters became too broad or unlikable. The first five seasons or so are very solid

She needed to appear less bird-like.

You are correct, the Jets are traditionally very bad at football. As are the Mets at baseball. If I understand my New York Sports tribalism correctly, their fans often overlap.

Oh I’m very familiar with that block. Across the street from the jail, has a pretty decent Mexican restaurant that very clearly used to be a Chinese restaurant, and one of the handful of SROs left in the city.

Blues Brothers captures a grimy, gritty downtown Chicago that doesn’t really exist anymore, and hasn’t really existed since the early 90s. The old SROs are almost all condos and Pret a Mangers now.

40 years later!

They added more Wampa and flying car things in Cloud City, but the changes were pretty minor. A good rule is that if Jabba isn’t involved, the special editions tweaks are largely harmless.

Yeah Empire easily fares the best of the original movies w/r/t Lucas’s tinkering. IV and VI are butchered, V is relatively unscathed.

I saw Girl Talk in 2011 and, at 23 years old, I felt too old to be there. I can’t imagine how I would feel now, nine years later.

I think the reason Rogue One works for me is that it feels the most like early 90s EU. It’s the closest we’ll get to a live action Shadows of the Empire movie. The Mandalorian has a similar feel.
