There actually used to be a spec 350Z rally series run in the Netherlands. They’re more robust cars than people give them credit for!
But yeah as far as having an “old school” feeling sports car goes, this thing will be awesome compared to much of the modern competition.
Hmm, it looks like the 400Z shares a roofline with the 370Z, but I still wouldn’t judge it without sitting in one first, as seat mounting height, or even cushion depth would have the same effect.
Unlikely. The 350Z and the 370Z were 2-seater only, with 2+2 options based on the same platform available from infiniti. To my knowledge, all Z cars have come initially as strict 2-seaters, though certain generations also have 2+2 versions available.
I’d hope it would be Mustang GT territory. I bought a 350Z back in the day, it was more or less Mustang GT power at Mustang GT prices. The difference was that the Mustang was bigger and heavier and didn’t handle as well.
Funnily enough, the original FX45 rode on the 350Z platform. People were totally confused by that thing when it came out.
Just a year or two too late for me as I already made my “roughly once a decade new car purchase” a couple of years ago.
M/T is 100 percent confirmed as an option.
I had a 350Z for a long time, i’d respectfully say that the main shortcomings in terms of driving dynamics were basically: The engine is harsh, it understeers too much.
That’s how they made it cheap. And its a sports car. As far as i’m concerned the formula for the perfect sports car is “Make it drive more ore less old school, but with modern performance and reliability.”
I dunno if i’d call it Mustang performance. I was lucky enough to drive one and it was genuinely very very fast. I guess its “Mustang performance” if we’re including the GT500, but not if we’re talking GT or even GT350. And it’s MUCH faster than the i8.
The 1st gen NSX was sold in the U.S. until 2005. Along the way it got a bump in displacement and power as well as a 6-speed gearbox to replace the original five speed, power steering and of course a couple of styling refreshes.
Yeah, i don’t think 30 lb-ft is too much of a price to pay for much higher levels of driver involvement. I know everyone is saying “the clutch wont hold up if you tune it” but i feel like you could also just NOT tune it. 300+ hp in a small chassis with a warranty is awesome in its own right.
It is a fairly common mod in the BMW community to re-code adaptive headlights to European spec. In the U.S. we get identical hardware, but our lights only swivel to look around corners, not do the fancy thing where they avoid oncoming traffic.
$60K gets you an M2 Competition, if you want a more serious/special performance car that’s not horribly impractical.
I’m not saying the GTI’s handling is a “Problem” per say, i’m just saying that both the Golf R and the GTI handle like front-wheel drive cars. One handles like a FWD car with traction issues, the other handles like a FWD car with spooky good traction.
Yeah, I agree. This is a step in the right direction though. I think the reason the R is hard to justify over the GTi has a lot to do with the fact that the R still basically drives like a FWD hatch.
