As I’ve said before, there is no “one size fits all” way of being or thinking. What I hear you saying doesn’t contradict what I’m saying—people may receive a particular message differently depending on their individual experiences and sensibilities. There’s nothing inherently wrong with the message; the effect of the

That’s true, but no, it’s not shitty—it’s life. There is no “one size fits all” method of thought. You can’t please everyone all the time. I don’t necessarily think of it as a zero sum game, the message is meant to empower those who need such a message to empower them. The message is not meant for those who may be

I absolutely agree that no one should ever make a victim feel like he/she deserved it. However it’s also true that if you don’t report/take action, there is no chance at all that you will ever see justice. It doesn’t mean you’re weak or deserving of what happened to you if you make that choice but it’s the reality.

I mean, not really. I understand what you’re saying and your perspective, and I think “don’t be a victim” has a particular connotation when targeted towards women, especially victims of sexual violence. But the concept of “not allowing oneself to be victimized” is really about self-actualization, it’s about standing

Playing devil’s advocate but I think what people probably mean by “don’t be a victim” is that even if you are the victim of an assault/aggression of any kind, don’t be passive and take on a victim mentality about it but rather be proactive and try to do something about it?

Sure but this is the same site that does nothing but demonize Stacey Dash on a constant basis. Suddenly the same site turns around and says “Poor Stacey”. What do you expect people to do? I honestly don’t understand that mentality.

The “no guns at all/you can’t have mine” idiots are also the ones that shout the loudest. That’s why reasonable discussion is drowned out. We’re too fucking quiet to tell the bleating sheep to shut the fuck up and let the adults talk.

Actually, it would probably have the opposite effect. Every defense attorney knows that, in a rape case, you want as many women on the jury as possible. They’re more likely than male jurors to blame the victim and excuse the defendant’s actions.

I think part of being in the police or the military is sacrificing personal beliefs for the whole. I don’t think that more female police officers will really help all that much if the police culture remains the same.
