I’ve never heard anyone argue that. Who said this? Before the vote, a lot of people thought that a wave of sympathy might result in even more people voting Remain.

Having been shot and stabbed already, Mair began to walk away from Jo Cox and made gestures with his knife at her staff. Fearing that he would attack others, lying in the road, she shouted to her colleagues to run and save themselves: “let him hurt me, don’t let him hurt you”. Seeing that she was alive and able to…
... oh my god, I am suddenly so worried for all the women serving in Congress, especially all the women of color that were elected this year (Kamala Harris, Pramila Jayapal, etc. etc.).
Still not quite sure why stories of this incident tend to use the word “murder” and not “assasination.” I can’t help but feel that it’s because she is female. Webster defines assasination as “to murder (a usually prominent person) by sudden or secret attack often for political reasons.” Let’s at least give her…
He is a disgusting toady sycophantic hole of a person and see when ACTUAL Brexit work happens, he buggers off to Trump tower. He just wants to fan the flames and take credit. He and the Daily Mail have a LOT to answer for. Nasty, cruel and all very deliberate.
One of the most disgusting things after her death, was Nigel Farage trying to distance it from the Leave campaign and telling people not to let it sway the vote. He also tried to paint himself as a victim.
Oh god, I’d forgotten about that statement. Absolutely disgusting.
Let’s not forget that within days of the Brexit vote Farage was crowing about them having won a victory ‘without a shot being fired’. The fact that someone on his side of the argument had murdered a young woman trying to do her job was so unimportant to him that he’d forgotten about it within weeks.
In the US they’re “lone nutjobs”. They’re just defective white folks, you shouldn’t suggest they’re tied to an actual ideology, or the product of a toxic system that’s taught them that only their views matter.
The judge in this case was fantastic and did not allow Thomas Mair to address the court. Another thing that was left out of this story was that court heard that Jo Cox tried to protect her staff and said “Get away from him, let him hurt me.”
To be honest i’m just glad they’ve dropped the mental health angle and have started actually just calling him a terrorist. It took them a bit (though they’ve been pretending they’ve been calling him that since)
I fear the parallel upsurge in racist/nationalist/misogynist/bigot violence in the US. It is likely to grow worse. Trump has not only stirred the pot that the GOP extremists have set to boil, he is not going to deliver on many campaign promises and his crazy followers are going to blame their favorite hate objects…
Yes, but the Nazis tried to do it for the *right* reasons, whereas the EU wants to take over Britain because of...bendy bananas? I think it was bendy bananas.
And what was Nigel Farage’s comment 6 days later on the day of Brexit? That “he won” it “without a single bullet being fired”.
Hmmm...I guess the UK has no problem referring to caucasians as terrorists when the situation warrants. What’s our (the US) excuse?
It is too bad that the people who laid the ideological groundwork for this man’s crimes - like UKIP leader Nigel Farage - will never see the inside of a courtroom.
The country is already torn apart. What does Hillary have to lose?
YES YES YES THIS THIS THIS
Because I’m a navel-gazing liberal, I keep asking myself how I would react if the situation were reversed. If Trump had lost but his supporters were calling for recounts in key states with close results and this or similar evidence (they’re claiming illegal immigrants voted, not Russian hacking, right?).
Why not check them? If the results are the same, the right can go back to screaming SHUT UP WE WON to random Starbucks baristas and/or Broadway actors.
