I've tried to watch it several times and I just can't get in to it. The male lead is great, and I'm super happy a wider audience will get to see how amazing John Noble is but I just don't find the narrative interesting enough. But I'm happy it's doing well in the ratings because I want to see more

This show had such potential. It could still get there, maybe, but I had real hope it might fill part of the Fringe-shaped hole in my heart. But alas, no, so I'm back to placing Red Vines at the foot of my John Noble shrine and hoping for a white tulip in the mail.

Agreed, Kira hasn't earned enough fan loyalty to take up that much screen time in an episode. As the Vampire Diaries have shown, flashback episodes work best when you get to see your favourite characters in cool costumes and tacky wigs.

I really like your Holmes and Watson comparison. I never thought of it like that but you're spot on. Very cool.

Rust is the only one who is correctly understanding what's happening. But he also has addictive traits that push him to look for clues in everything he sees and put his own safety at risk. And The Yellow King is a story about obsession and a story within a story hence the red herrings throughout the episodes that we

Agreed that there's no evidence that she's not in a happy marriage.

Maybe. She just seemed so withdrawn in all her scenes (interview, with Marty, in the bar). She became increasingly unhappy as the previous episodes went on culminating with the confrontation with Marty re. Rust.

There's no evidence to suggest what kind of relationship she's in but she doesn't seem like she's particularly happy. She seemed very withdrawn and emotionally disconnected.

Ah yes. Thanks for that, I'll re watch that scene.

Isn't the lawn mower guy related to the family? Illegitimate son of Tuttle's cousin or something? (I got slightly lost with how they're all connected) Not strictly a Tuttle but I'm not sure what else to call him.

I'm re-watching all episodes and I don't see the last episode finishing with Rust and Marty sharing a beer celebrating Tuttle et al. being locked away (as much as I would love that).

Sonia, these reviews are an absolute joy to read. AVC, please give her more shows to review. And Sy-Fy, make more Helix so Sonia can review it.

So we've pretty much agreed that Hatake will infect Sarah and her cancer is healed.

Maybe I've got rose-coloured glasses on but I love Pocahontas. I was in a music program in high school and we went through a period where we were obsessed with it especially the voice students who would sing Colours of the Wind in between classes. Maybe it's just nostalgia but I still really love that song.

So true. The opening was cool but had a weirdly tribal feel that was out of place.

Yep. I wouldn't bemoan it Best Director or Special Effects because of how visually stunning it is and I love long takes. But the script rules it out of Best Picture contention. I cringed so many times.

It's tough being a comedy up against super intense dramas. My personal reading is that the award will usually go to the drama because the Academy are worried that by giving the gong to the comedy they're somehow downplaying the serious or urgent messages of the drama.

Agreed. Frozen was okay but I miss the Disney films that had legitimately awesome music. The Lion King, Pocahontas, Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid, Aladdin. The Frozen score seemed pretty generic to me in comparison.

Especially since they rake it in at the box office. It really does take talent to make a great action film that balances action, narrative, character development and stunning special effects. When they get it right it's an amazing viewing experience.

The Grammys could be an interesting case study as artists can win in their genre but also for Best Record.
