So Google didn't follow Apple into the phone business, does this mean they didn't create Android to avoid a world where there was only one phone?

@talkingstove: Blimey, tech blog in teaching me a cool new word shocker! Thanks, talkingstove.

@kaleberg: I was about to respond to this post with a "surely there's prior art" comment. I swear I had seen something similar done with a stylus ages ago.

@leeit2me: Outside of the nerdosphere, where people are actually using them, the problems are less severe.

Really looking forward to 140 Characters, the Twitter movie.

@D.LYTE: I find it just as bad explaining simple things to people who are otherwise totally competent with a computer. My wife still doesn't "get" putting music onto her iPhone from our network storage, even though it's just two drags and a little waiting.

@AWood1984: Worse than that is the terrible junk characters it inserts into documents. Having to replace dashes/em dashes and elipses with characters that will display in all browsers titses me off. Word formatting is suitable only for viewing in Word or printing.

@hippy247: I do care. Same as I care that right now on my PC, curent release versions of Safari and Chrome both totally trounce the Firefox 4 beta. I'm a developer, though, so I care about how nippy my JavaScript runs.

@talkingstove: I agree for a different reason. There is Opera, but it is so gimped that the average iPhone owner won't bother with it. Unless they're pretty special, any other browsers released for the iPhone will suffer the same problem, even taking the whole brand recognition thing into account.

@gabrielsmiles: This is pretty much what I got out of it. That's not how the digital economy works.

mSpot is barely usable right now, so they've only beaten Google to slapping a beta sign on an incomplete service.

@BlueBeard: If you buy a Dell in the UK or Ireland, chances are it was assembled in Ireland...

@FarukM: You clearly aren't getting excited enough playing Wii Sports. You terrible person.

@BigBadHarv: I put mine into a balled up pair of socks then stuff it down the front of my shorts.

@NorwoodIsMyHero: I'm actually the coffee cup out of shot. Mum was so proud.

@drmrw: But seriously, have you ever heard of direct deposit?

"I know how CSS styles work and can usually spot errors in the code if I had too."

@Mactopia: Given all the legal shenanigans, they've actually been way more complimentary than anyone would expect.
