shifts won’t be a less attractive strategy until players show that they can consistently bunt for a hit against the shift. The guys who can do that don’t get the extreme shifts against them.

It was easier way back when pitchers were barely averaging 90 on their fastballs. They throw several ticks harder now.

Because bunting against major league pitchers is hard? Most of the guys being shifted on have almost certainly never needed to bunt at any level.

It would be a quick and decisive way to kill research of batted balls. No shifts and you’d have very little reason to keep track of a batter’s batted ball tendencies.
