I know stereotypes are easy but I seriously doubt any of the white women who voted for Roy Moore are voting for Biden.

That same argument was used to dismiss young women who support Bernie (they want to support the guy all the young cute hipster guys support), and it was as sexist dumb when applied to them as it is when applied to the women who support Biden.

I find Warren perfectly likeable and way more competent than any of the candidates but the fact is she never gained enough traction beyond some highly educated professionals, and while a large part of it is sexism, that’s not the only reason.

I think Trump will probably win anyway, unfortunately, because right wing populists are on the rise worldwide and so far nothing seems to be able to stop their inexorable rise. But there’s a slightly better chance of a Democratic win with Biden than with Bernie.

I agree the New Deal was possible because of a perfect storm of factors - the Great Depression being one of them. But I think a lot of it was also possible because of the figure of FDR. You say the US needs Bernie Sanders, but the fact is he wasn’t able to gain the necessary mainstream traction that would win him the

Thank you for that. That was beautifully written and it actually made me tear up and I’m not a Bernie supporter - not because I oppose his ideas (though I don’t agree with how he ran his campaign) but because as a foreigner who grew up in countries where social democracy was the norm, now that I live in the US I’m

Thanks!

Maybe don’t cite the Daily Mail if you want anyone to take your argument about Bernie bros’ seriously?

Here we go again. Blame everyone except low voter turnout among the age groups where Bernie has the widest support...

Yeah but I think it’s way too hot during summer months so it basically has to be in the spring or the fall.

I agree. But the thing is, barring a revolution, all change will have to be incremental. Look at the New Deal. For that to be possible, Democrats controlled both Houses basically non-stop for over 30 years, and the White House too except for the Eisenhower years (and he was a pro-New Deal Republican). And built up a

Like I said, I don’t entirely disagree, and you’re right that with Gen X there’s more of a split between right and left than with the generations that came before them (which, by the way, happens in every generation because for the most part most people become more conservative as they get older. Except for my mother

Best news I’ve heard all day!

Because Democrats controlled both Houses during that period, and there were enough Republicans who supported the New Deal as well. Democrats controlled both Houses for about 30 years. That’s not gonna happen these days given how far right the Republicans have swerved.

Yeah but you can’t undo Trump and completely change the system in 4 years. Plus, say by some miracle Bernie did get elected. He wouldn’t be able to get any of his sweeping reforms implemented because Democrats won’t win the Senate, and everything would get shot down by the Courts which are for the most part

I don’t disagree although Gen X turnout is still higher than Millennials and Gen Z, plus there’s a slightly more even split in that age group between Biden and Bernie, whereas for under 40s there is a marked preference for Bernie, so yeah Millennial and Gen Z turnout matters more for Bernie than for Biden, at least in

Can I just say thank you and that you guys are kicking Jezebel/The Slot’s ass when it comes to election coverage?

Statistics directly contradict your anecdotal evidence though.

Thank you. And I’m glad Jezebel is at least partially recognising that. Though they just acknowledged the age gap between Biden and Bernie supporters, but not the fact that, combined, in this last round of primaries under 29s are still only 15% of voters so youth turnout remains a huge issue, and is Bernie’s biggest

Yes I know. How does that change anything I said?
