American drinking culture is really different and often far more destructive than drinking cultures in other places.

Yes. I worked at a movie theatre about ten years ago that had a reputation of leaning slightly more to the arthouse style, we definitely got more indies, docs, and foreign films than the other theatres in the chain. We would frequently have customers come in, ask “Why don’t you guys ever play foreign movies like you

Two of these are images, not videos.

It’s not my favorite, but for whatever it's worth Io Sì is the song nominee that has been stuck in my head since watching the movie.

I put myself through watching every damn movie (I think I needed a hobby). I definitely recommend Another Round and Collective. Quo Vadis, Aida was also quite good, excellent at building tension, but a very devastating topic so enter into it with care. Time was great and deserved a nod for editing instead of just best

I have had the hardest time finding a way to stream White Eye and I finally found it (and The Man Who Sold His Skin) last night so I’ll be watching those today. I could see the Academy going for Love Song for Latasha, but I could equally see them going for Colette. I still think Hunger Ward was the top doc for me.

Honestly I liked all of them, but it definitely wasn't as ambitious as Genius Loci or Opera. Yes-People was good, but it felt like it's just there to pad out the category, movies with the biggest emotion tend to win here, and If Anything Happens I Love You has that in lock.

I go back and forth between thinking either Collectiv or Time is more deserving, they’re both fantastic. But yeah, it’s going to be My Octopus Teacher.

There are two wins that I would put a hundred dollar bet on: Boseman will win best actor, and If Anything Happens I Love You* will win best animated short. The rest I have my guesses but less certainty.

There are literally millions of queer people out there who have struggled in the closet without stalking and abusing someone. Let one of them have a show.

Obviously when a bakery doesn’t make a cake for a gay wedding it’s the free market, but when a publisher doesn’t want to distribute a book by a killer that’s a violation of free speech. The fact that the white hetero patriarchy benefits in both cases is a mere coincidence.

Why do you want to justify this? You and I both know the reason. Is someone paying you to be contrary? What's the point of ignoring the obvious truth?

Even so, Nakia tries to open his eyes in the beginning of the movie to some realities he’d never been exposed to. Much like Strange who was brought up by another commenter, widening his perspective was a part of his journey. Carol and Steve are both pretty mature, true, but Steve certainly started his journey

Moreover the language used around indigenous Americans often implies that they’re all dead or mostly dead so it was like some tragic thing that happened but there’s nothing we can do now. It’s a lie and we need to stop telling this lie to kids in school.

Exactly. But I know if there was a Congressional caucus around preserving them and giving them reparations these same Republicans would hate it.

America’s unique cultures have been under threat from mass immigration*, but that started a few centuries back. That being said, it’s not too late to do something about it and work to preserve those cultures and give reparations to their descendants.

It actively didn’t make sense to me that the MCU waited 11 years to release a female helmed movie. Not only was it confusing that Black Widow didn’t get a solo film (and got weirdly left out of the merch for The Avengers if I recall), but movie audiences were primed for big budget young adult content with female

Just Googled it and it looks like you just alert the TSA agent and are able to opt for a pat down search instead. It's not like Bucky's arm has to be a weapon, and it isn't the part of him that makes him the most dangerous (that would be, in order, his training and conditioning, his sarcasm, and the super soldier

This is awesome. Thank you!

Well, apparently he could remove it and toss it in the bin while he walks through the metal detector. I would like to see that. Although on a less humorous note, plenty of people out there in the world have metal as part of prosthesis and are able to travel by plane, although I’m sure a lot of them have had to answer
