I've always lightly washed all of our cast iron for years with the softer side of the sponge and whatever dish detergent we have.It won't hurt a thing and doesn't affect the seasoning of the pan whatsoever.Just don't SCRUB it.

Yes agreed, we save a LOT of money that way and buy larger tray packs of chicken, pork chops etc and then do just that in 2-person meal portions and date the ziplocs. We'll also cook a turkey and ham etc and bag it up too in portions. :-)
