I think there's nothing wrong with that. I am poly but do not agree with the author that monogamy is somehow wrong.
For me, as a poly person: it's not just about the sex. It's also about love, romance, and yes, commitment. Of course it's not the same thing as a sexual orientation, but it is a different lifestyle from the norm. I have it found much more difficult to be poly than to be bi.
This irritates me, too, as a poly person. I think both lifestyles are perfectly fine.
