I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
Women can very often accept and promote denigrating projects and images because they like to think they are being edgy or artistic. The bigger picture of what the images represent is lost behind the individuals rather naive assumption that this art represents the internal struggles of a human being. This view is…
I watched a couple episodes of Californiacation, which I regret, and at one point some book publisher is referring to the main character’s manuscript as “the sexiest thing written since Lolita.”
“Gee, rape is really horrible! Let’s show it again and again, lingeringly, from many different angles!”
I will never find it intellectually stimulating for a man to condemn women who are obsessed with beauty.
I love horror movies, and I now feel challenged to seek this one out to see what I think for myself.
If it makes you feel any better (it probably won’t — sorry in advance), people who say stupid shit like this about Lolita have rarely read the book. So Refn is pontificating about a book that he likely never read — I would bet my heart-shaped sunglasses on it
I looked at the plot summary on Wiki and - SPOILER ALERT - this was the last sentence:
“Earlier you said all men have a fantasy of being teenage girls. Do you still have that fantasy?”
I’m sorry is he... is he implying that maybe Lolita is the “demon” in that story because men = dumb and women = sophisticated? What the actual fuck.
It’s very unpleasant to be in the same room as a man who won’t stop talking about how beautiful a 16-year-old is.
This pretentious ass movie somehow managed to be repulsive and yet boring as fuck at the same time.
“Narcissism is awful, and young people are the worst, but isn’t this 16-year-old girl super hot?”
I love how this dude keeps yammering on and on about how authentic to the real fashion industry his film is, and then he sets it in Los Angeles.
Sorry, this was a bad reply. But I agree with you! And I’m very sick of movies and TV shows and even, like, advertisements that profess to condemn something while directly and explicitly contributing to that thing they’re saying they condemn!
I really liked Tom Gordon too, but I’d have to say The Dark Tower. It was clear from the very first line that I was reading something utterly different and completely epic in scope. King may write a lot, but it still seemed like it took forever for books to come out in that series; it took 22 years total and there…
This girl has been owning her exes in her music and the press for like eight years now. Calvin, you knew what you were getting into. No pity here!
It’s so strange that the popular narrative is so intent on making this woman into a villain. She’s makes perfectly innocuous music that a lot of people seem to dig and she’s not an obnoxious creep about her success. Where is there a problem that necessitates this?
I would respectfully suggest that understanding that nothing posted online is ever private is a more vital life skill than knowing how to correctly spell Ta-Nehisi Coates.
Hudson is an idiot because she didn’t know how to spell Ta-Nehisi Coates’s name? Seriously?
