We assume they need  someone to hold them up at the start, but maybe it's just a customary pre-sprint hug.

All legality and technique aside, it kind of looks like the entire purpose of that early round is to psyche each other out. I love how even the cyclist in front is looking back at his opponent, taunting him, like "watcha gonna do about it?". Deep down I know the slow start doesn't actually exist for this reason but

I was impressed by Georganne Moline's ability to rock some serious eyeliner on the track. Most athletes are scrubbed to within in an inch of their life, and here is this lady with a full face on. Crazy.

Plus Mustafina used some kind of rad glitter spray in her hair, a surefire way to win my affections in a sporting event.

I definitely found myself voting for the Latvians. It was so close it's hard to call them underdogs, but the way they turned it around was exciting to watch regardless.

I understand what the purpose of the falling van is, but after a certain point it started to seem just a bit indulgent to me. But I knew what I was getting into by making a derogatory reference to such a beloved film, so feel free disagree away.

So true! When she was done with her routine, rough landing and all, she was smiling, and it even seemed sincere. Meanwhile poor Victoria Komova looks like she's going to slit her wrists.

Seriously, one of the things I find sort of insane about the the gymnastics (which also applies to figure skating and a number of other events) is that it's not just performing well, but performing EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD. No room for alteration, let alone error.

I actually held a for real, hours-old newborn for the first time last December and have since developed a similar fixation with how comically large the supposed newborns of movies and television look. Now the size issue I understand because using an actual newborn would be irresponsible, but there is no good reason

Did you mind her on JAG? Because I never minded her until she really started to close the gap on that plastic surgery/original face ratio.
