I completely see the potential for the silliness you're describing but don't think I can keep myself from following along in spite of the warning. Is the burgeoning craziness at all fun? Ironically or indulgently or something?

I don't mind the stylized sterility of her city life, heavy handed as it is. I think it's an unsubtle but ultimately effective metaphor for how alone she feels there.

I follow DEGRASSI despite the lack of oomph in recent seasons, and was thrilled to see a trans character on mainstream teenage programming. I only wish they gave Adam a bit more than a three episode arc before relegating him to good listener status.

The show totally IS the product of two different TV pitches smooshed together - one for a show about a male-to-female transsexual mother of four children, and one straight-up hitman drama. It's like a wacky bag of Combos.

I've been pondering similar questions since watching the show; there are definitely people in the trans community who don't aspire to surgery, rendering the term "preoperative" irrelevant. In the case of this particular character, she is undergoing hormone therapy, which is why she gets to look Chloë  Sevigny-shaped,

Not to mention Kim Cattrall on the British stage.

Hm, English performed with a generalized British accent often stands in for a multitude of foreign dialects or, heaven forbid, ACTUAL foreign language plus English subtitling, so "foreign" would not be too inaccurate a term really.

Thank you for that very simple scientific explanation for a phenomenon I had started to assume was caused by media savvy faeries.
