the Knights became more of a faction, unto themselves, in tension with Rey / jedi / resistance/ and FO.

I saw a twitter comment from someone that said “The Rise of Skywalker would have had a better ending if Geralt showed up and slaughtered all of the characters from Cats.”
Lol
I wouldve been much more interested in a more character / ideological focused final chapter than the mess we got. JJ erased the importance of the original trilogy in TFA by wiping out most of the resistance, RJ finished it off in TLJ, and this couldve been a story primarily focusing on Kylo vs Rey, and deepening the…
I’m not sure he walked back TFA though? He took the threads handed off by JJ and took them in an exciting new direction. JJ got scared because he has no original voice of his own, and fumbled them hard.
There was a lot of narrative hooks to pull together for a third movie that would have been better than this movie.
“He wrote and created 8 as if he hadnever worked collaboratively before .... and maybe, to his credit, he hasn’t”. Maybe he has maybe he hasn’t. But he was following up on Abrams’ who filled his movie with “mysteries” that he had no answers to when Johnson took the helm of TLJ. So Johnson essentially had no…
He retroactively undercut TFA ... and he left no narrative legs for RoS
In a show about magic, the real wizards are the fine folks who digitally removed the mustache that I assume Henry Cavill still has.
That didn’t stop Game of Thrones from becoming popular. Lots of fans haven’t and will never actually read any of the books.
I’ve watched the first episode and if it’s any indication, the series is going to have difficulty appealing to people who aren’t familiar with the books or the games.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I was actually able to find your reply, something that’s been getting harder and harder to do on kinja.
Overall I don’t like what he did with TLJ, but he’s absolutely right on this.
It swung a millimeter, which could only seem large in comparison to the absolute-zero of Force Awakens.
It’s interesting how much I agree with Johnson, and like his approach and attitude - and even his other movies, from what I’ve seen - but still didn’t enjoy “The Last Jedi.” I admire his big swing, and I love a few parts (pretty much everything with Rey and Kylo), but I wish I could point to it as a counter-example to…
I’ll never forgive the prequels for subverting the ugly little muppet and actually making him a warrior that murders people, especially with a child-sized lightsaber. Yoda should always have been above that and was originally written to be someone who COULD fuck you up, but always chooses not to. That’s one of the few…
Counterpoint: the original trilogy is a classic. While the story is simple and the effects now seem quaint, it still mostly holds up, a testament to the ingenuity the filmmakers used and how well they told the story.
the prequels, which had Ewan McGregor and then a bunch of people who weren’t Ewan McGregor
My husband is tempted to get Disney Plus just for the Mandalorian (which I understand was the intention). But I convinced him that all we really need is to watch clips of Baby Yoda for free on the internet.
Can I join? Force Awakens was just a rethread of A New Hope. I thought TLJ would be better as they had all the exposition done. But it was boring. It was just the ‘culture wars’ buttons it pushed that gave it any heat. I’d had zero expectations that this one would turn things around.
Support thread for folks who found both Force Awakens and TLJ boring and realized you’ll never love Star Wars as much as you did as a child and that’s ok
