@AndyMan1: I'd suggest chicken wire, ziptied to whatever railing you have. That is, if they can't climb the chicken wire. If not, then the fine mesh that they use in porch screens can be picked up at Home Depot for not too much.

@MaliciousH: I'd never heard about it either, until I happened to be playing around with a new install of Win Vista at home, and it asked me when I plugged in my usb drive. I said no, and kind of ignored it, and haven't really looked into it. I'm correcting that now.
