Or do a story AFTER the EU stories? Last EU book is 40-ish years after the movies. Wouldn’t this be the perfect opportunity to pick up where the novels ended?

Why would you need to know what happened in all those 40 years? You don’t need to know all the small nuances that happened to understand this theoretical new movie. You would get the crawl to get basic info what’s going on and that is it.
Every time I see this kind of argument I see “Disney fanboys”. There was no “convolution” nor any “mess”. People had real jobs about keeping the story linear and in check. If you bothered to get some info before posting, you would know that.
Movies out of books? Yeah, why not. If Harry Potter or the LotR franchises are any example, it can be done with huge success (it just takes more work). Now here comes Disney, who just purges all of the lore and stories, so they can have “creative freedom” which turns out is a stupid reboot of the ep.4.
Amusing indeed to watch something you love to end. And then the remake (films) is now proving inferior to the original (EU).
Yeah well, I guess we will see if Disney comes with better stories.
So you base the whole EU on one article, which is clearly biased in denouncing the EU?
