I'm wondering why there were no mass arrests of the group that went to what I'm presuming is an African-American part of the city to 'terrorize' the residents. Or mass arrests the previous night when the tiki torch brigade terrorized the group of people gathered in the nearby church.

'Nazis not doing what you tell them' should not have come as a surprise to anyone. The police blew it, whatever the reason.

I think there must have been several militias there. I know Redneck Revolt was present, acting to protect counter-protesters where they could.

I'm not a lawyer, but I believe there is a category of speech ('incitement') that is not protected.

I'm a bit skeptical of the notion that the nature of this assembly caught the powers-that-be by surprise. Saying that gives state and local authorities excellent cover for the inaction that allowed so many people to be hurt, though.

That conversation, usually centering around the ACLU's recent actions, is happening right now.

'Moderate' Republicans no longer exist at the national level. They were phased out in the 90s and 00s, and replaced by frothing Tea Partiers and theocratic weirdos.
