This is also a "turn off" of the game for me. Even though it doesn't bother me from an objective standpoint, I don't really care what other people do if they want to play those characters, I would feel kind of gross associating MYSELF with a game that includes those characters.

Did you do the countryside quest in the Demo? While it was cordoned off (you couldn't explore very far) that was just an invisible barrier in the demo. The game does feature a sprawling, seamless open world.
