Yeah, it makes you wonder if “Lord of the Sith” was originally intended to be a secular noble title that had nothing to do with his Force talent. Like maybe Sith was a planet or city he was the Lord of. Or some secular order like a knighthood.

I think digital colour correction was still fairly new in the late 90s, so it’s probably Lucas or the cinematographer playing around with a new toy.

In fairness to Lucas, at least the Lucas of the 70s and 80s, that was how everyone did their worldbuilding back then. No one set out to make a film trilogy, or a seven-part book series, or a multimedia franchise that would span decades and entertain millions. They were just trying to sell this book, this comic, this TV

That’s a really good point too.

Oh, totally. But I think it illustrates that much like the Roman Emperors, Palpatine couldn’t just say, “I’m in charge now, and all those Old Republic institutions will be closed down.” He still had to pacify some powerful interests who were invested in the old way of doing things, and while they might not have been

That’s a good point. He’s probably a threat to them (beyond the choking hazards)—a guy who’s close to the Emperor but outside the normal military authority, there to second-guess their actions and report back to his master. Or take over a squadron under Imperial orders for a “special mission from His Highness”,

At least there’s this sense that the Jedi had been in decline for a long time. Like, obviously there were still some around a couple decades ago or Kenobi wouldn’t have be trained as one, but it’s implied the time when they served the Old Republic as a large institution was much farther in the past.

I think Germain’s point is that New Hope does a really good job of implying a bigger story and universe without explicitly spelling everything out, so interpretations like this seem prophetic in hindsight. Even though it’s more likely no one (including Lucas) had worked out the details yet.

You know, on my recent rewatch, I think I might put Star Wars slightly above Empire. Empire’s still great, but I had forgotten how goofy it can get. And the plotting isn’t as tight as New Hope.

I did my own recent rewatch of the original, non-Special Edition trilogy, and I remember thinking how non-specific so many of the worldbuilding details were, the sequels could have gone in very different directions from that initial episode.

Well, now we know what that Die Hard prequel’s going to be about.

Snyder movies are too dark to have the mandatory half-dozen scenes shot at sunset Bay requires for his films.

Please let the DCU Gotham accent be a Boston Southie accent.

Wasn’t there an earlier teaser or trailer that showed her with Bruce at Lex’s party? There were a couple of stills with her in the white dress at least.

Are you dismissing the atmosphere-sucking powers of MegaMaid?

Or the...mining drill?

I remember an interview with Larry Hama where he talked about that era, when as a penciler who became a writer, he sympathized with the frustrated artists. “The artists would draw this beautiful scene, and then 75% of it would be covered with a caption that was describing the scene it was covering!”

It’s not an origin story? Hallelujah! Now that I could be interested in, especially with Lord & Miller at the helm.

A good one and a bad one?
