Not as far back as Danny Saber
Not as far back as Danny Saber
I'd say Danny Saber is a pretty legit veteran of the music wars. A former member of Black Grape as well as having writing, producing, performing, and remixing credits with artists like Bowie, Madonna, Public Enemy and U2 (to name but a few) that shows more depth than anything Timberlake or Pusha T has ever gotten up…
80's darkwave? It's called goth. Goddammit I hate this retroactive genre naming.
Me and my friends did the same thing
I read the book hoping to learn more details about that, actually. He doesn't address it though. However, I've always been under the impression that if there was a racial slur used that it would've probably come from the entourage and not Lydon who has consistently been outspoken about his anti-racist stance for no…
Rock's got 3 years tops
I like the first album but they seemed to get on a Queens of the Stone Age kick and I just kinda lost interest. Also, really did not enjoy that video that starred the drummer. It was tough looking at his face for a whole four minutes
Yeah, you'd think a music journalist might be aware of that…
Post-punk was a term that appeared in the late 70's so it wasn't applied retroactively. Also, rare is the band that self-identifies by genre. SOM was notably dismissive of the term goth. Seems like you have your own way of categorizing things and that's fine if it makes sense to you but out of context it's…
Eh, no. Clan of Xymox maybe but "darkwave" didn't become a press term as a genre until the 90's. Sisters of Mercy? Definitely not "darkwave". Darkwave is like Cruxshadows and that garbage. Started in the 70's? Name one band. Early goth, was "positive punk", synth-pop or post punk depending and there was coldwave…
Darkwave? That's like corny 90's synthpop goth music. Love and Rockets is pretty straight alternative pop. Don't get so excited about throwing out buzzwords
Is it just me or does this guy seem kinda dumb? He wants to punch the Barenaked Ladies, he listened to the song and read the lyrics for 3 days to keep his hate strong, he refers to college rock as a genre of music… I dunno this is all stuff I would expect a really dumb guy to say.
Nice article and I really appreciate your response Flyin Hawian because it said a lot of things I was thinking while reading it. I love this album as a synthesis of Rozz and Rikk Agnew's sensibilities. I could never really get into Rozz's later stuff (Shadow Project, etc.) and Rikk Agnew ably proved his brilliance…
