Yeah I didn’t mean to put this as an argument against what you wrote. the interview was random, that I believe. And I haven’t seen any evidence to say he wasn’t robbed. I was just presenting the cynical side of the story if he did exaggerate or lie about this.

Unfortunately, Brazil does look bad here. Nothing good is going to come of detaining US Olympic swimmers because they maybe or maybe not made up a story about getting robbed. They are literally making an international incident out of it.

On the other hand, as soon as I heard their cell phones weren’t taken I raised an

What in the flying fuck knuckle are you talking about? Yes. We, the collective rest of the world, thinks this makes Brazil look bad as fuck. On top of being sketchy as fuck. All the bads...also. How do you have 29 people who agree with your dumb ass take?

Uhhh...yeah. The judge seized their passports on the fact that they didnt look too scared in a surveillance video a while after the mugging allegedly happened.

Actually they are, Typical corrupt third world shit stain of a country

It’s possible that some cops went rogue, and the police want to make sure they track them down and get their cut, as well as punish those cops for unsanctioned freelancing.

Yes, we do. The Brazilian government has always had a heavy hand when dealing with these sorts of things, including the detaining of individuals either unrelated to the incident in question, or wholly innocent of wrongdoing. This is nothing new for them, but Rio now shines a spotlight on it.

wait, you think Brazil is the one looking bad here? lol ok

Why would the brazilian government even try to pursue this further? Frankly it just makes the country look even worse and petty IMO.

Holy shit - this is just a straight forward informative post explaining the answer to an interesting question. Well done.

No, that shit doesn’t fucking fly anymore. You don’t get a pass for being racist just because “you were born in another time”. There are plenty of olds out there who treat everyone with respect, regardless of their race, religion or gender.

Exactly. Someone asked an 85 year old man some questions and people are surprised when he sounds like someone from another time. So dumb.

“When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist.”

True, this isn’t about age. Eastwood was always like this. His shtick was acting like an old-time cowboy who wakes up in the modern world from the beginning.

This is why I don’t buy “he was born in a different time, he can’t help it,”. There were people then who fought for kindness, justice, and respect for everyone. There were also people who were born into that time, absorbed the common values of that time, but realized what they’d been taught was wrong and wanted to be

Let’s all stop using the term “PC” and instead just call it “kind, considerate and respectful.” How many Republicans would be openly opposed to that? “Politically correct” makes them think it’s about politics and not human kindness, and that they can be against it and not be an asshole.

I love how the same folks that love it when a man “tells it like it is” and is anti-PC don’t quite understand why black folks and women can’t just mind their manners.

I agree that, often, the “I’m offended!!!!” bandwagon is just too goddamn much. I also don’t care for extreme political correctness, and I think it can be battled through smart, rational discourse. Yes, some of us are too fucking soft.

The thing is political correctness has become comical. So much so that us lefties have to call foul sometimes. But Trump manages to offend everyone. He is inciting violence. He disparages the disabled, women, everyone who isn’t white. He is literally shouting fire in a crowded theater.
