I think the reviewer is making stuff up. There is no inclination of romantic feelings at all in this episode, Deb repeatedly refers to him as bro or brother reaffirming that particular relationship.

As I undersatnd it, the bite is not a zombifying infection, its just a general infection that comes from being bitten by someone with rotting teeth who has been eating random meat, and having an open wound without anti-biotics. It;s that infection that does the person in.
