I subscribe/unsubscribe from the Fresh Air podcast annually out of an irritation that's probably just in my head:  I've listened to her for so long I can almost tell when she's mailing it in and she's been doing that a lot.

@avclub-01f78be6f7cad02658508fe4616098a9:disqus , I guess I should prepare myself when on a future Watch This: Cabin in the Woods edition, you start by lamenting that contemporary horror films are tailored towards social deviants? I kid!

…I must add that I would have commented roughly the same way if it were over any other genre like, hypothetically, if the writer was commenting about Cabin in the Woods and made some generalization about how nu-horror fans were social deviants.

@avclub-8b59528c5bbf7073061271c79ba0e1e0:disqus , I'm firmly with you on not giving a rat's ass of what people might think of me or my character regarding my personal taste in entertainment.

Yes those movies come from a medium aimed at kids, but some of us are emotionally-mature adults that enjoy them for what they are. This perceived gritty veneer isn't universally applied to all of these live-action fantasies. Nor do I think it was characteristically added to feign maturity for the relatively few (and

Let us not forget the documentary Overnight! It's a fun to watch if you're into schadenfreude …and cautionary tales about the effects of burning every fucking bridge due to an unchecked ego.

Remakes never ruffle my feathers. It’s not going to erase the original from existence and hell, it might actually have something insightful to say. But what the fuck is it with stretching a story beyond one film?

I seriously enjoyed your reviews and am very sad to see you leaving this beat because of commenters I never noticed spewing vitriol at you personally.  IThat said, unless you or others on your behalf take serious measures to put an end to it, those who are harrasing you might follow you to your next assignment.

Speaking of then-future BSG alum, starting with this season of DS9, Bradley Thompson & David Weddle have written a dozen or so memorable DS9 episodes, ie some of the love it-or-hate-it entries…

Before I grew up/matured as an individual & started watching DS9, I  remember reading many a list of best ST episodes, franchise-wide, and "The Visitor" seemed to always be ranked #1.  "The Visitor" hits hard the first time, but "In the Pale Moonlight" fucking destroys.

I would say that Todd is being more non-committal to a definitive personal interpretation and not rejecting 'Tony's dead' outright.  If anything he's rejecting the riot act that staunch pro/anti-death viewers spew every time the discussion veers to what the scene is specifically saying.  I myself am 100% on 'Tony's

Malick's films always leave me feeling like I'm an animal who just watched other animals say profoundish things.  Still trying to decide if the feeling's awesome or depressing.

As a lurker for the past couple of years, I'm gonna finally come out of the woodwork and thank you Todd for helping me watch vicariously through your fucking awesome essays until I finally built enough juice to rewatch the show for a third time.  And thank yous to every single last one of the commenters that added to
