On a related note, I've always enjoyed comics who turn "serious" as they age. Steve Allen, Al Franken and Jackie Mason come to mind. Bill Maher and perhaps Jon Stewart may be at risk in coming years. I believe that Stephen Colbert will dodge the bullet.

Oliveri, Grohl…sounds like the label folks weren't happy with what Homme presented them with, so it was scrap that and do Songs for the Deaf II.

I just watched her on YouTube—not this set—and was put off by the same characteristic. I'm not into the squeaky sitcom voice. Hard to figure out why she uses it—maybe it's a crutch—who knows.

Elton John once called pop "disposable music" and to a large extent, he's right. The audience for a particular era of oldies keeps getting smaller and smaller until the sound all but disappears from commercial outlets.
