This is SO true. This is always the argument I hear against installing things like solar panels that, at least currently, require nearly a lifetime of use to start being cheaper than fossil fuels. People are irked that their down payment will help the next owner more than them.

These are jobs that are often contracted out, sometimes even by governments. Say you run a state school, and all state employees have a pension and awesome health insurance.
