The more Gabe lets his ego out, the more I dislike him. As a company, I love Valve, but as a person, I am getting tired of Gabe. Which is unfortunate, as he has crafted a great little empire.

It's kind of sad that that's what basically everyone has been saying since day 1, and Microsoft somehow didn't grasp this. Or rather, some executive didn't grasp it. I have no doubt that there were Microsoft employees saying "this will never work", but that doesn't mean the right people were listening.
