Lot of people don’t really seem to get that. Read up on the biggest strikes in this country’s history. Those people surely weren’t “privileged” enough to lose wages or their jobs but the risk was worth it.
I loved learning that many of the bodega owners paid their workers for those hours they were closed.
This is good, but what about all the minimum wage workers and people whose bosses won’t understand? I think strikes can be effective but we also need systems of protest that are more inclusive for people who can’t afford to strike.
I was a teen delinquent in the 80s, and went through one of those teen courts. They were honestly some of the most helpful people I’ve ever met. I had a B&E charge from being homeless, and breaking into an abandoned summer home during a storm because I was cold and wanted to be out of the rain. The neighbors called…
It makes a difference if the parents are truly mortified and are taking this seriously. Will their home environment encourage them to just rush through the assignment to get it over with without reflecting? Or worse, tell the teens just to be more discrete next time? Or will the parents be hammering home how…
Since Trump apparently doesn’t or can’t read the best defense we can offer is better educated youth to combat his stupidity. Sending them to jail is wrong.
Or also kids do dumbass things to shock or be edgy.
The article describes them as “teenagers” but that covers a lot of ground. There’s a huge difference between a 14-year-old drawing a Swastika and an 17-year-old doing the same thing.
Okay, but then those people must realize the convicts sooner or later get out to rejoin society, so it’s not a good idea to make them even more criminal/unfit for society.
Empathy is taught, not inborn. Which is why reading novels (such as The Color Purple, The Kite Runner etc) may help them become better people in the future
Problem is, a lot of Americans believe that the proper response to criminal activity is punishment and not rehabilitation. Those folks are tough to convince that prison should be more humane.
“They don’t have empathy.” Teenagers... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don’t care if Melania doesn’t want to do this shit, but it is up to Trump to assign someone, like Ivanka
Yeah, my late grandfather referred to this as “Stupid Proud.” It was what he called folk that know they are being stupid but nonetheless decide to power through rather than acknowledge any need for a helping hand/change of behavior.
“That house belongs to the public”
I don’t care if Melania doesn’t want to do this shit, but it is up to Trump to assign someone, like Ivanka or a family friend to do it then.
Basically, a Jean-Ralphio who is in charged of our nuclear codes.

I recently found out that I am pregnant and am 100% planning on using one of these names anytime someone asks me what I’m going to name the baby.
