I highly doubt the diesel would get 50% better economy. Not saying it isn't possible, just highly unlikely in my mind. Ecoboosts do pretty darn well by truck standards.

"Cheap" and "fun" are exclusive ideas of many car companies. Especially non-American ones. At least the Big 3 have pony cars, which aren't terrible on the fun:price ratio. The Japanese brands, however, have just about lost their minds, outside of the Toyobaru BRZ/FR-S.

Not sure where y'all are driving, but luckily in Texas many roads are on the up-swing, and new projects abound, even in sparsely populated West Texas.
